Description Porsche Taycan

Porsche Taycan - the brand's first mass-produced electric car. Introduced in September 2019.

The serial Taycan inherited the main design features and proportions of the 2015 concept Porsche Mission E. The electric car is a four-door sedan with two trunks and frameless doors. The rear (main) trunk is designed for 366 liters, and the front - for 81 liters. The Taikan is 86mm shorter and 29mm wider than the Porsche Panamera liftback, while being nearly the same size as the Tesla Model S.

The basis of the power structure of the Porsche Taycan is made of high-strength steel grades, and most of the outer panels are made of lightweight aluminum. The car is built on the new PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform jointly developed by Porsche and Audi, which is characterized by a low center of gravity - only 420 mm from the road, which is 20 mm lower than the Porsche 911. The traction battery of the Korean company LG Chem has a liquid cooling and is integrated into the power structure of the floor, and the elements of the power plant and the power supply system are very tightly packed, thanks to which the designers carved out more space for riders and trunks.

This is the first mass-produced electric car with an operating voltage of the traction network of 800 V, while for other “battery” cars this figure is 400-480 V. From a DC charging station with a power of 270 kW and a voltage of 800 V, the Taikan battery is charged up to 80% in just 23 minutes. The Taycan also has two electric motors, with a single-stage gearbox installed in front and a two-stage gearbox in the back. Overdrive "rear" gearbox is necessary to increase the maximum speed.

There are three modifications of the Porsche Taycan:

• 4S
• Turbo
• Turbo S

By analogy with other Porsche cars, they differ slightly in the design of external elements and have significant differences in performance. Initial 4S version has a more compact motor on the rear axle (its length is 130 mm instead of 210 for Turbo versions). The power plant of the machine with the base Performance battery at 79.2 kWh produces 530 hp. However, a Performance Plus battery with a capacity of 93.4 kWh is available (similar to the Turbo and Turbo S versions), in which case the maximum output rises to 571 hp.

The maximum charging power depends on the battery: 225 kW for the basic version and 270 kW for the Plus version. In addition, the power reserve is also different: 407 and 463 km according to the WLTP cycle, respectively. Although the dynamic characteristics are the same: from 0 to 100 km / h Taycan 4S accelerates in 4.0 seconds, and the maximum speed reaches 250 km / h.

In modification Taycan Turbo a 218 hp engine is installed on the front axle. and 300 Nm, and the rear electric motor develops 408 hp. and 550 Nm. The total output in the nominal mode is 625 hp. and 850 Nm, although in Overboost mode the power rises to 680 hp for 2.5 seconds. From standstill to “hundreds”, such an electric car shoots in 3.2 seconds, and up to 200 km / h in 9.8 seconds. The maximum speed is 260 km/h. The battery capacity is 93.4 kWh, the declared power reserve in the WLTP cycle is 450 km.

The most sophisticated modification Taycan Turbo S equipped with the same electric motors as the Taycan Turbo, but with different settings and a more powerful inverter. As a result, peak output reaches 761 hp. and 1050 Nm. The battery is similar, but on a single charge, the sedan travels 421 km all in the same WLTP cycle. The maximum speed is similarly limited to 260 km / h, but the backache from 0 to 100 km / h lasts some 2.8 s. Both the Turbo and Turbo S are equipped with air suspension with active stabilizers, but the Turbo S additionally has a fully controlled chassis, as well as carbon-ceramic brakes.

The interior of the Porsche Taycan is designed in the traditional style of the brand, except that there are almost no conventional switches, and the driver and passenger are surrounded by touch panels. The Start/Stop button is located in the traditional Porsche ignition position, to the left of the steering wheel. The latter, by the way, is of two types - standard and sports, with a rotary switch for driving modes.

The Porsche Taycan is produced at the new "factory of the future" in Zuffenhausen, Germany. Serial production of the model began in September 2019.
